What is a marine riding team?
A riding team (riding squad) is a mobile crew of marine engineers, fitters and welders that joins your ship to carry out repairs and overhauls on board — underway, at anchor, alongside or in dry dock. Instead of waiting for a shipyard, the work is done where the vessel is, keeping her trading with the minimum possible off-hire. Mescomar mobilises riding teams from Türkiye to vessels worldwide and completes every job with measurement, testing, commissioning and a full service report.
Riding team scope of work
Main engine maintenance & overhaul
Onboard overhaul of 2- and 4-stroke main engines — pistons and rings, cylinder liners and heads, main and crankpin bearings, fuel injection pumps and valves, and clearance/deflection checks. Our riding teams work to maker procedures on MAN B&W, Wärtsilä, MaK and CAT and other makes, then test and record the results for your technical records.
Auxiliary engine & diesel generator overhaul
Overhaul and repair of auxiliary engines and diesel generators — cylinder heads, pistons, liner honing, main and big-end bearings, fuel pumps and injectors, and governor and protection checks. We restore generator reliability on board so the vessel keeps full power available at sea and in port.
Pipe repair & renewal
Onboard fabrication and renewal of shipboard piping — fuel oil, lube oil, cooling water, ballast, bilge and hydraulic lines. Steel, stainless and CuNi pipes are cut, bent, welded and pressure-tested in place, replacing wasted or leaking sections without sending the vessel to a yard.
Steel & plate repair
Structural steel and plate work on board — steel renewals, cropping and re-plating, tank and bulkhead repairs, doublers and inserts. Welding is carried out by qualified welders to classification-society requirements, with the damaged or wasted steel measured, cut out and renewed in place.
